Campaign ends 14th March, 2015.
The ‘No Child Left Hungry & No Person Left Powerless’ campaign is the extension of ‘Da ni jedno dijete u Hrvatskoj ne bude gladno’ organized by Portal dobrote in Croatia.
This is a grassroots movement started by four ordinary women (Portal dobrote), some of whom are mothers, in response to the state of despair many Croatian families are experiencing in Croatia. They could no longer sit by and do nothing, while there are Croatian children hungry at school.
The IndieGoGo campaign extension for Australia, America and Canada was launched on Feb 3, 2015 by Croatian singer/ songwriter Tajci and run by a small team of volunteers operating at a minimum cost.
MONEY COLLECTED SO FAR
The launch of the campaign on IndieGoGo.com provided a huge boost and strong media presence for Portal dobrote in Croatia.
Run under hashtag #DaNeBuduGladni (trans. so-they-are-not-hungry) the campaign has received their first on-going media sponsor – HRT1 (Croatian Radio and Television).
This resulted in a flood of donations and to date, Portal dobrote has received HRK 105,000 (USD $15K) toward providing lunches for school children in Croatia.
As of Monday, March 2nd, 2015, the IndieGoGo campaign has reached 78% of its target. The target of USD $6,161 symbolically represents the last day of the school year in Croatia, 6-16, and the number 1 was added to the end to represent us all as individuals who, joined together can make a difference. ART COMPETITIONS FOR CROATIA’S CHILDREN BOOSTS MORALE
In the spirit of the campaign’s intention to empower each individual to make a difference – including the school children themselves, a national drawing competition has also been organized under a hashtag #DaNeBuduGladni. It’s already turning out to be a beautiful way to involve and remind Croatian children the importance and power of helping others and working together.

Tajci’s team has also organised an art competition for Elementary School Jasenovac. The winners and prizes will be awarded by Elizabeth Hardin-Klink, Associate Educator of Family and School Programs, Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati USA.
SUPPORTERS
The Melbourne Croatia Social Club and Melbourne Knights Soccer Club have been huge supporters of the campaign from the beginning, organising collection tins and posters in the clubroom. St Anthony Croatian Church in Los Angeles, included flyers in their 9th Annual Croatian Cultural Extravaganza on February 14th! Diaspora newspapers have printed articles, radio stations in Croatia, Australia, America and Canada have been promoting the campaign and people are sharing the campaign on facebook and other social media.
With the campaign end date March 14, 2015 coming up soon, the on-going support of diaspora is needed today!
There are many worthy causes around the world, but someone also needs to raise the voices for the forgotten Croatian children.
Here are only a few reasons why:
• Croatian children are hungry at school. Unicef Innocenti Report Card 12 believe worst affected countries of the Great Recession (Croatia is one of them) has more than one child in five living in poverty.
• They are Croatia’s future, and we need to let them know that we care, restore hope.
• This campaign will be 100% transparent, all ingoings and outgoings will be published on Portal Dobrote website and facebook pages. Principals of schools will be held accountable, visit campaign for more details.
• Portal Dobrote has plenty of ideas to empower Croatian children to realise their dreams and follow their paths. Support these women who are making a lasting change – by empowering people to realize the power of each individual to make a difference.
HELP HAS ALREADY STARTED
Thanks to the Croatian National Television becoming the media sponsors for the #DaNeBuduGladni campaign in Croatia, Portal Dobrote has already received donations to cover the following number of students’ lunches till the end of 2014-15 school year.
• 53 children from Mate Lovrak Elementary School, Petrinja, Sisačko-moslavačka županija
• 10 children from Elementary School Lovas, Vukovarsko-srijemska županija
• 99 children from Julija Bešenića Elementary School, Ilok, Vukovarsko-srijemska županija
• 34 children from Ivana Brlić Mažuranić Elementary School, Strizivojna, Osječko-baranjska županija
• 13 children from Vladimira Vidrića Elementary School, Kutine, Sisačko-moslavačka
• 25 children from Elementary School, Jasenovac, Sisačko-moslavačka županija
More schools are expected to sign up soon.
